yesDid you know that hotel room tax income is used to promote more tourism? In other words you pay for them.?
Yes.
You are naive if you don't think you pay for marketing every time you make a purchase. It may not appear as a tax, but marketing and advertising costs are built into everything you buy - that's how marketers are able to fund their marketing initiatives.
There is no set percentage for how much of a total purchase price is allocated to marketing, but it's built in there.
When I did work for local automobile dealers, approximately $300 from the sale of every new automobile went back into the marketing budget.
As a tourist, I don't mind paying the Room Tax fee, because without it, many hotels would not be able to advertise, and I may not otherwise know about them. Room Tax also helps to support the local tourist industry. For example, Portland, Oregon hosts the Rose Festival Parade every year, and I'm sure a good percentage of local hotel room taxes are put into the kitty to help support that event.Did you know that hotel room tax income is used to promote more tourism? Yes
Some other names for it are occupancy tax and city tax. If it's a city's tax then only part of it goes to tourism and the rest goes wherever bond issues have decided it should go. I work in the hotel industry, and you are not the first person to ask questions about this tax. It can be kind of un-nerving to be standing there in front of a guest who is wondering why his bill went up by as much as 20%. In our town it goes mostly to pay for our convention and visitors bureau.
