Christians, would you be a little upset if you found a Gideons KORAN in your hotel room drawer?

Not everyone is pleased to find religious books of a particular denomination in their room, correct?Christians, would you be a little upset if you found a Gideons KORAN in your hotel room drawer?
I would probably do something like walking around the pool area with my new found book asking people if they've accepted Allah into their heart. Or knock on people's doors at 4 AM, doing same.Christians, would you be a little upset if you found a Gideons KORAN in your hotel room drawer?
Brilliant . . .

The Gideons International, founded in 1899, serves as an extended missionary arm of the church and is the oldest Christian business and professional men's association in the United States of America. Here are some highlights from our long history of service:

The Idea—In the autumn of the year 1898, John H. Nicholson of Janesville, Wisconsin, came to the Central Hotel at Boscobel, Wisconsin, for the night. The hotel being crowded, it was suggested that he take a bed in a double room with Samuel E. Hill of Beloit, Wisconsin. The two men soon discovered that both were Christians. They had their evening devotions together, and on their knees before God the thoughts were given which later developed into an association.

First Meeting Called —On May 31, 1899, the two men met again at Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, where they concluded to band Christian commercial travelers together for mutual recognition, personal evangelism, and united service for the Lord. They decided to call a meeting in Janesville, Wisconsin on July 1, 1899, in the Y.M.C.A.

Mr. Samuel E. Hill

(1867—1936) Mr. John H. Nicholson

(1859—1946) Mr. William J. Knights

(1853—1940)

“We shall be called Gideons.”—Only three men were present at that meeting: John H. Nicholson, Samuel E. Hill, and Will J. Knights. They organized with Hill as president, Knights as vice president, and Nicholson as secretary and treasurer. Much thought was given to what the name of the association should be, and after special prayer that God might lead them to select the proper name, Mr. Knights arose from his knees and said, “We shall be called Gideons.” He read the sixth and seventh chapters of Judges and showed the reason for adopting that name.

Effective Witnesses in Hotels—In view of the fact that almost all of the Gideons in the early years of the association were traveling men, the question quite naturally arose regarding how they might be more effective witnesses in the hotels where they spent so much of their time. One trustee went so far as to suggest that The Gideons furnish a Bible for each bedroom of the hotels in the United States. He commented, “In my opinion, this would not only stimulate the activities of the rank and file of the membership, but would be a gracious act, wholly in keeping with the divine mission of the Gideon Association.” This plan, which they called “The Bible Project” was adopted by the convention at Louisville, Kentucky, in 1908.

Church Support—It is interesting to note that the practice of the churches contributing to the support of the Gideon Scripture program originated with a pastor. Just two months after the 1908 Louisville Convention, a state convention convened in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. National Secretary Frank Garlick and Mr. A. B. T. Moore attended a meeting of the Ministerial Union, and after their program they asked if Brother Garlick could address the ministers on the work of the Gideon Association. He spoke of the needed Bible distribution, and at the close of his 10-minute address, Mr. Moore's own pastor, Dr. E. R. Burkhalter, First Presbyterian Church, arose and moved, “...that Gideon Bibles be placed in all local hotels and that the Union be responsible for the funds.” The motion was unanimously carried and a committee appointed to apportion the cost to the churches, according to their strength.

A Worldwide Effort—It's been nearly 100 years since The Gideons International placed the first Bible in a hotel room in Montana. Today, The Gideons are organized in more than 180 countries around the globe and print Scriptures in more than 80 languages. Through God's grace and to His Glory, more than 1.3 billion Bibles and New Testaments have been placed by The Gideons, and the work continues . . .

Interesting there is no Koran, or Islamic group like the Gideons

I wonder why that is?
From your question you don't know what the Gideons organization is all about. This would never happen. However, it is part of the freedom of religion for this country -US - to where whomever owns the Hotel/Motel can place, or allow to be placed, whatever they wish to in their rooms. Accordingly, you might find any religious book - Bible, Book of Mormon, Koran, etc. in the dresser in your room. Why be upset? you don't have to read it or maybe you should as everyone could use a little learning and maybe you might then understand a little about what other people believe in. Some of the questions placed in this area show that the person placing the question has no understanding about what the specific religion believes in nor has the asker, most probably, ever read or studied the book representing the specific religion. This question is a prime example of the asker not knowing what the Gideons organization do and probably had never even had a Koran in their hands. No, I would not be a little upset as I am very happy that I live in the United States where the Koran and any other religious book could be placed there.
Not at all. In fact, they can put 20 different books in there if they want, as long as it doesn't get ridiculous to the point where there's nowhere to put my clothes. It would be much the same was as a diabetic likely wouldn't be offended by a chocolate on the pillow for me. And if I was bored, there's a good chance I'd give it a read, since I never have (as long as it was written in English, since I can't read Arabic)
Honey, the Gideons are Christians, not Muslims, so that will never happen. So no, it doesn't upset me that Gideons place Bibles in hotel rooms. I think it's a wonderful thing and has stopped many would-be suicides from happening. If you aren't ';pleased to find'; a Bible in your room, please feel free to not pick it up to read. That is your freedom of choice at work.

Leah
I'm Muslim.

lol, I went to the beach up in Maryland and I found a Bible in my hotel room drawer and just started reading it. My brother comes over, he's like ';What are you doing?';

I was like ';I'm just curious.'; I agree. I'd be glad if there was a Quran in the drawer. Ahaha.
If the Gideons accidentally distributed a single Koran, that would probably be worth a fortune, given the unlikelihood of that happening. So I'd be thrilled.
The Gideons being a Christian org wouldn't do that. However, I have noticed the past few times I have been in a hotel there is a Book of Mormon. It does not bother me in the slightest.
Not everyone is pleased, no action can please everyone, but i would like to have an extra copy of any religious book with me to tell you the truth.
I tend to pull the gideon books out of the drawer and replace it with my own reading materials/socks/snacks/etc. It usually hides under the bed.
Just put one of these on them

If the Gideons want to pay for my hotel stay then that's fine. Otherwise they need to collect their belongings.
Christian is a faith, not a denomination.
Its just a Book of no significance I would put it in the drawer. f you found a book on porno of gay %26amp; lesbian would you be upset.
i think the questions said '; Christians '; so if you answer this u claim to be Christian right??

my answer NO i wouldnt, it has some good history lessons in there.
considering they are a Christian group ?? Not upset at all, but very surprised.......and those who are NOT PLEASED about finding bibles in their room, tuff... don't read em !!! go in peace.... God bless
Yes i'd be upset. Mainly because Christianity is the one true religion.
Bible Torah or Koran it would be going down the toilet in my hotel room.
No.

No.

(The Gideons would not likely produce a Qur'an.)
Jaja why would I be? I know what I believe in and nothing is going to change my mind. But I also respect others' beliefs, since God gave us the decision to follow Him or not :)
No, b/c your faith alone will not make such up roar over nothing. B/c I know where I stand.
Nah. Theres a reason why only Bibles are found in hotels. (its the main religion..)
No never in the hotel room long enough to read, when I am I bring my own books.
I doubt the Gideons would put a Koran in a hotel room.
books shouldn't upset you. Read it or don't.
Then they can get over it!
No, I want to read it.
no they can do it too
I wouldn't really care. I take my Bible with me :)
If I didn't believe in Islam (which I don't)... I most certainly wouldn't be happy about finding a Koran in my hotel room drawer. But I would just counter that by leaving a mini Bible... HA!!
